Training a Computer To See as a Human Sees

Computer Vision algorithms have advanced for identifying specific objects, but recognizing the "bigger picture" of an image is still an open and challenging problem.  The technical term for this challenge is "natural scene recognition."

Professor Fei Fei Li's solution to this challenge was to describe each natural image by the objects present. It is an effective solution that in some ways reflects the way our brains recognize a familiar scene.

Worked with the marvelous Professor Fei-Fei Li (now the Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab), Rob Cosgriff and the rest of the Stanford Computer Vision Lab.
